Stepping toward God.

Surrender, stepping toward the Divine.

"There I humbly offered myself to God, as I then understood God, to do with me as He would. I placed myself unreservedly under His care and direction. I admitted for the first time that of myself I was nothing; that without Him I was lost. I ruthlessly faced my sins and became willing to have my new-found Friend take them away, root and branch. Simple, but not easy; a price had to be paid. It meant destruction of self-centeredness. I must turn in all things to the Father of Light who presides over us all. These were revolutionary and drastic proposals, but the moment I fully accepted them, the effect was electric." (From the Big Book of AA: p 13-14)

The words that stand out are:

  • humbly
  • offered
  • do
  • placed
  • admitted
  • faced
  • became willing

It is amazing what God can do with a broken life who is willing to let God be God. I did not need my Masters degree encounter God.

To step toward God I humbly offer myself... I place my life in God's hands... I admit that I am alone without God... I face the truth about myself and I become willing to let God be God in my life.

To take the next step toward God I repeat the above process... one day at a time.

What is it in my life that I need to humbly offer to God today? What do I need to admit to God today about myself? Where do I need to be willing to let God be God?

Bill W. started the largest small group ministry in the world. He helped broken, wounded souls step toward God.

What do you need to do today to take a step toward God?

Hi, thanks for dropping in on my blog.
I like "To take the next step toward God I repeat the above process... one day at a time." and when I read that the verses from Philippians flashed across my skull, "Work out your salvation with fear and trembling" (Phil 2.12) and my take on that is "do all you can to find your wholeness in God with awe and wonder" and a lot more but space restricts - maybe I'll post on this soon - thanks for your thoughts.
