Dazed and Confused?

“I often respond the way I should feel rather than the way I do feel. Confusion or indecision is a good sign of this happening.” Hugh Prather.
I talked to a friend today who wanted to know what I thought about something. I realized that he wanted me to tell him what to do because he was both indecisive and confused. Now there’s nothing wrong with seeking advice or being confused but in this case my friend wasn’t in touch with his heart.
The question I asked is “How do you feel?” I said, “Don’t tell me how you think you should feel tell me what is going on inside your soul and if you are not sure, get alone with enough that you can hear your true self. Don’t do anything until you can be honest with yourself.”
I think this happens in religious and/or church circles, especially those who tend to be a little more legalistic. I suspect there are many folks walking around responding the way they think they should. I think there are a lot of people out there who are desperately afraid of God or the image of God of the mob. Sooner or later folks can no longer live by the shoulds of the mob and they respond the way they feel rather than how the tribe thinks they should.
If you are confused or indecisive you may be responding the way you should rather than the way you do feel.
Feelings aren't up for debate. Don't deny what you feel.
It doesn't mean that you have to act on your feelings, but for the love of yourself, don't deny them.

Rick, kudos for your insight. Keep up the good work.
My question is, why are so many people so afraid of God? God is our best friend and wants only the very best for us, but in a manner where the results will be lasting, not fleeting.
I’d like to share part of a post I put on the blog my wife and I have that is a partial description of God.
I am your joy, your sorrow, too
I am the light reflected by you
I am more truth than man has told
I am the mystery that life will unfold
I am your wisdom, the light you seek
I am for those who are said to be weak
I am for you, child, a way to be
I am a thought of harmony
I am by man the way to see
The entire descriptive verse may be read in the post I made on October 21, 2005 at Inspirational thoughts
I thought I was suposed to be Dazed and Confused....
No really, you are right, we confuse what we really feel with what we think we should feel and therefore never really experience the power of the Spirit that lives in us. How can he help us if we don't admit we have a problem
I so love knowing that He already knows how I feel and that He's not scared of it.....He's not scared of the ugly in how I feel and that makes it easier to just feel it and see it for what it is....
Matt, welcome.
I appreciate your comments.
Nice plug. :)
