Do you hear voices?

The human voice is the organ of the soul. --Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

I recall standing in front of Ms. Meador’s third grade class reciting, "I shot and arrow into the air…" Thanks to Henry Wadsworth Longfellow I discovered something about voice that day. I discovered that my voice truly is the organ of my soul. For my voice expresses my innermost self— the deep place in me where God resides. Like a pipe organ, when I speak the Holy Spirit is the air that pumps through the pipes of my soul.

That is why it is so critical to never silence a person.
For when a person’s voice is silenced, their soul is silenced.

Look at you life and community:
Who are those who are not speaking?
Who are those that have no voice?

If one dominant group is doing all the talking they very well may be the demon that needs to be exorcised in order to give the mutes their voice. Jesus silenced the demon freeing the mute to speak.

Who are the demons is doing all the talking in your life? In your church?
Who are the mutes in your life?

One of Jesus’ main ministries was giving voice to those who had been silenced.

Giving folks their voice allowed their soul to sing and express the Spirit that is with in us all.

Do you hear voices?

Sometimes we need to listen carefully to whose voice we don't hear?

Perhaps this needs to be one of primary ministries as humans,
to exorcise the demons in this world that attempt to silence others
and thereby silence their souls.

Thank Kat. Good point. I as also thinking about women in many of the more evangelical churches. There is very little voice in leadership particulary on a national level. It makes me wonder how the Holy Spirit has been silenced in the church as a result.

It comes down to basic human dignity. I think back to my childhood and not being able to "talk back" to my parents. It was supposedly being "respectful". In ways that was not healthy and it stifled my spirit.

powerful post Rick.

my thoughts immediately went to my kids on this one.. in our home, so often a voice is silenced - usually unintentionally because of the strength of a sibling or just the plain old garden variety chaos that swirls around us.

"silencing their souls" speaks volumes to me and is a great reminder to stay attentive to little voices so that they can develop the Spirit inside them.

thanks my friend.
