How to Get God's Attention.

If you want to get God's attention, this is the fast and simple way..."

Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury…"

Jesus sat opposite watching.

How would you live your life if you noticed Jesus sitting opposite you, watching? I am not talking about drinking, telling dirty jokes, smoking cigars, toeing the line, or any measure of performance. I am talking about serious issues of the heart and how I live from my heart because it seems that is what God is concerned mostly about, my heart.

God is watching.

"Many rich people threw in large amounts. But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins…"

I wonder if the rich folks noticed Jesus directly opposite of them? I bet they did. I bet they looked straight at Jesus and smiled or at least watched him through the corner of their eyes. They probably dug a little deeper in their pockets. I think I’d be tempted to dig at tad bit deeper.

Can you see Jesus smiling and nodding as folks dropped their offerings into the box?
He probably wasn’t nearly observant of their actions as they thought.

He probably didn’t say a word to them.
He just looked into their hearts.

I guess that some times our hearts can speak louder than even our actions?

Do you think the poor lady saw Jesus ?

I bet she didn’t look Jesus in the eyes.
Accustomed to being overlooked, I doubt she noticed Jesus watching her.

Imagine her shame she must have felt watching the rich folks in the line ahead of her dropping in larger amounts than usual, and here she is with only two small coins.
Yet she is the one who got God's attention.
She probably tossed the small coins in the box without ever looking up.

She gave from her poverty.

That got Jesus’ attention.

What gets your attention?

Sadly, all too often things that come from abundance get my attention. Expensve things... pretty things... things.

God isn't impressed with things- property, possessions, and power. God is not impressed when I give from my abundance. I can't even get God's attention with my abundance.

But, the things that are given from my poverty, my weakness, my scarcity, my brokenness and my emptiness somehow gets Jesus attention.
Giving from my poverty gets God’s attention, why is that?
I suspect it is because these require me to give the only thing I have, my heart.
And that seems to be what God is most concerned about, my heart. In reality that is all that I am in God's eyes; not my possessions.

Do you really want to get God’s attention?

Then, like the poor widow, give from your poverty, your brokeness and your shame... come to the God of grace and give God the only thing that you truly possess...

Give God your heart.

And watch God take notice.

What inspires your writing? Do these things come to you randomly or do you choose a topic? Amazing stuff here, as always!

Beautiful, my only other concern is, after all this and we seek desperately God's attention.
What do we do when God gives us His attention? How many of us really know what to do?
