'Til We Get the Healing Done.
"Do you want to be healed?" Jesus
The word heal stems from the Old English word hælan which means to make whole, sound and well. The word we used for "salvation" also means "to be made whole". Being made whole suggests that there is more to healing than simply healing one’s physical illness, but to explore the potential emotional and spiritual factors in one’s life.
I suspect that many folks may find healing without ever finding a cure.
We can be partners in each others healing by walking with one another on our journey to wholeness.
In order to walk with a person I must first be present to the person. Being present is perhaps the single greatest gift I can offer another human being. To be present means that I enter another’s world via an invitation and receive another person with openness, respect and dignity where he or she may be on his or her individual journey.
When I am present I allow another person to know that someone is there and aware of him/her as a human being. Life takes its toll on humanity. We have wars, hurricanes and floods that touch our physical lives, but we have wars, hurricanes, and floods that touch our spiritual and emotional lives.
We are all in need of healing.
Life can be overwhelming and lonely for folks, especially those who have been cast out by society. What I find so beautiful about Jesus, is that the Image of God becoming human and entering the story of humanity. God comes to us right where we are, especially to the "least of these".
Our role is not to fix a person or offer advice but to listen with compassion.
Listening may be one of the most compassionate actions I can take in one’s healing. All too often folks want to talk and tell, but that is more about control and coercion, not love.
Listening requires me to focus my attention and energy on another person and not myself. Listening allows me enter the story of one’s life-- not just to hear the person’s words, but to listen to the person’s soul and to create space that may allow a person to listen to his own soul. Because it is a "partnership" I too am received by the person in the sharing of his/her soul, as a result, I too am healed.
Like Jesus, and in the words of Van Morrison, make we walk with one another "Til We Get the Healing Done"
"Oh till it's Truth and it's beauty and it's grace
Till you've finally found your true place
Till you know your original face
Till we get the healing done
Oh child, till we get the healing done."

I need this. I find myself multi-tasking even when I am supposed to be listening. I especially struggle with listening to my family.
Thanks for the reminder.
That's how the Lord got my healing done; by sending another human being who did just as you spelled it out. Perhaps I can pass it on and be that for another person.
Thanks for your excellent thoughts.
We are all in need of healing.
We all need to be made whole.
I know I do.
